Property Status and Protection of Animals

We aim to overhaul the Animal Welfare Act, and replace it with legislation that respects the autonomy of animals.  Animals will no longer be deemed to be property. Until this legislation is in place, AJP will repeal any codes of welfare that allow  exemptions from Sections 4 and 10 of the Animal Welfare Act.  At present this loophole allows treatment that would normally be prohibited by the Act, if there is an economic incentive to do so.
